City Life

The past couple weeks have been filled with visitors, a birthday (I’m now 27!), a very inspiring Creative Mornings talk (which I’ll share more about next week), a Netflix binge (we finished House of Cards!!), touring around our own city, working on a personal brand update, and finally getting to enjoy some nice weather.

It’s hard to believe, but Nick and I went to the top of the Willis Tower for the first time, even though we’ve been in Chicago for 3 years now. The view was pretty unbelievable and made the city feel so small and intimate from so high up. I keep falling in love with Chicago more and more every day, and I can’t wait to see what summer has in store.

Happy Friday!

A little break from design today – in honor of St. Patty’s Day celebrations tomorrow, I thought it would be fun to round of some of my favorite Bloody Marys from around the city. This all started as a little research for a breakfast get together I’m having tomorrow. Naturally, I knew I had to have some sort of Bloody Mary bar because after looking back through my instagram account, I’m quite obsessed with the delicious morning cocktail.

Some of my favorites from around the city include Longman & Eagle, Rockit, Hubbard Inn, Trencherman and Joe’s Steak & Seafood. From shrimp cocktail to chunks of fresh cheese, meat and pickled vegetables – there are SO many good ones! I also came across this article of the most extreme Bloody Marys around Chicago, which is next on my list to try.

Do you like Bloody Marys? If so, what are some of your favorite garnishes?

Happy Friday! A little glimpse of what I’ve been up to lately :

1 / Getting a sweet package in the mail from VSCO cam and Designer Vaca back in the fall has me dreaming of warm weather, seriously take me back!

2 / A new pair of shoes, once again, has me anxious for some of the snow to melt around here so I can stop wearing snow boots every day.

3 & 4 / Last weekend I got to hang out in the Barkers’s studio for Blogshop, which was such a cool space. Lots of light and white brick walls = the ideal creative studio. They have some amazing little details in their space, pictured above is also one of the floral arrangements by Field and Florist.

5 / My husband and I went to a Forma Collective gathering on Friday night. It’s a publication that details different creative people from all over and gives an insight into their lives. The photography and art direction is beautiful to look at – they have 3 issues out now, I highly recommend taking a look!

6 / This guy has been keeping me happy and warm during the polar vortex that’s been reappearing in Chicago. He just turned 1 this week, which I can’t believe! The past year has been filled with so much joy and laughter from our little puppy – I can’t imagine what we ever did without him!

It’s been a while since I’ve shown some snapshots; I figured the new year was a good time to get back into it. As you can see, it’s been quite cold around here – we’ve spent a LOT of time indoors cozied up on the couch. I recently started watching Scandal, which I’ve now finished 2 seasons in one weekend, it’s addicting!

Clockwise from top left:

Bosco is pretty crazy about the snow, even in the negative temperatures he has no problem jumping through the 2 feet gathered up on our sidewalks. We had to buy him these woo pie cushion like booties to ensure he doesn’t freeze his little paws off.

Nick and I have been trying to eat healthier this past week, especially after the immense amounts of holiday treats. I found this recipe for kale and brussel sprouts during a quick search the other night and it was absolutely delicious. It’s great to throw over a grain or pasta as well.

A little better idea of what our street currently looks like. That’s after about 5 days of straight snowfall!

We’ve been enjoying these delicious chocolates my sister got us for Christmas. I love the packaging and cute graphics, not to mention they’re infused with a little alcohol :)

After almost three weeks away, it was such a nice surprise to come home to so many wonderful holiday cards, keep them coming!
